I gotta say. Every version of Dark Star that I’ve listened to so far is way different. 29:25 in we then segue into Sugar Magnolia.
Of course. Followed by Sunshine Daydream
Let’s buckle in for an 18+ minute version of Good Lovin. It’s said to think that Pigpen left us less than a year after this tour. This version is really solid. Sure, it’s got the required modal jamming and vocal improv, but it really hangs together. The synergy between the members of the band is really spectacular.
The jam never gets back to Good Lovin. Instead the jam changes to the next song.
This disc really needs to be listened to in its entirety. As one continuous musical entity. It’s actually quite a journey.
Pigpen has obviously listened to lots of blues in his short life. He’s borrowing lyrics and phrases from many songs in his vocal improvs, and probably adding quite a few of his own.
And somehow. We end up back with Good Lovin to bring this wild ride home.
