I can’t do any better than post this definition from the website, inktober.com
Q: What is Inktober?
A: Inktober is a month long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker that is focused on improving skill and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing and posts it online. Remember to use the hashtags #inktober and #inktober2025 if you want your art to be seen by everyone. (instagram link here)
I had heard of inktober in the past, but had never participated. I didn’t post any of my work online, but wanted to share a few highlights (or what I think of are highlights) here.
Inktober Daily Themes, or Prompts

Some Samples from My Sketchbook

What I Learned
- It was fun. I especially enjoyed the mental challenge of figuring out what to draw each day.
- I was inspired to draw more than just the daily prompts. In the first 12 days, I filled 12 pages of my 160 page sketchbook. In the following 19 days, I filled 62 pages of a second sketchbook.
- It’s a challenge to represent different objects, different colors, and different shades using only black and white.
- Once you have a keyword or theme in mind, you can find plenty of references and inspiration by looking at website with stock photos.
