Tales of the Jedi Quotes: And Why I Like Them

Continuing my study of the Tales of the Jedi Omnibus, I’ve given a short summary why I captured quotes from the story.

In an earlier post I explained a bit about Jedi vs Sith learning systems. You can read that here.

“A thriving world where the Kimugah live peacefully in gleaming cities along its blue seas…..but that was before the Rakata came.”. This is foreshadowing for the Rakata caused destruction that happens later in the story.

“No one expects death. They die nonetheless.”. An existentialist philosophical comment.

“Knowledge does not enter the unquiet mind.” Learning requires an open mind to accept new information.

“The most dangerous arena is not the physical.” The Mind is stronger than the body.

“Weaker minds are suggestive to the will of the stronger mind and the Force. They see what I tell them to see.”. The power of suggestion is how Jedi get converted to the Dark Side.

“Being of the same blood is not the same as being family.” Family implies a strong bond between people, not necessarily related to each other.

“He loves war. That’s why he’s good at it. More so than any Je’daii should be.” We all excel at things we are good at, which are usually things that we enjoy doing.

“is it right to destroy such a world to save the rest of the system? To save ourselves?” This seems related to the Trolley Problem that is studied in a philosophical ethics class.

“But loyalty cannot be bought or forced. It must be earned.” Great leaders inspire others.

“This has turned out both better and worse than my nightmares.” Beautiful language!

Pay attention to what I’m saying, Cay. This is important.

Ulic….tell your brother it’s disrespectful to fix your lightsaber when a master is talking to you.

I’m not fixing it. I’m tuning the blade. This captures a not unusual kind of conversation between siblings.

“A Jedi knows when to act alone, and when to call up the great brotherhood of Jedi Knights.” Teamwork!

Yes, my husband was murdered by thieves. But, as Master Thon says, out of great loss, a new life can be born.

I am a Jedi now. Avenging murder.

“A light saber is not only a weapon of war…it is one of the ways a Jedi contacts the Force.” This is an interesting mental picture of the importance of the light saber, a common Star Wars weapon.

“Jedi knights who turned to the dark side became rulers of the Sith.” Jedi become great leaders, no matter which side they are on.

“A Master should not underestimate the one to whom he has given knowledge.” Sometimes the student becomes the teacher.

Age sometimes plays tricks on the mind.

Yes, and sometimes as one grows older, the mind sees more clearly. Knowledge becomes wisdom.

“But any Jedi who runs away from an opportunity to battle the Dark Side…is a rank coward.” Sith are apparently the ultimate enemy

“Certain things are a matter of destiny, and certain things are a matter of choice.” A philosophical idea, comparing Determinism vs Free Will.

I’m like an artist who’s been blinded. I can no longer see to paint.

Then become a sculptor with your talent. Feel your way if you can no longer see. Use the senses that you have. Your remaining senses might become stronger to replace the ones that are diminishing.
