I’m a frequent library user. Where I live I have 4 library systems that are convenient and I regularly borrow books and CD’s from each of them. Movies. Not so much. I’m not much of a movie watcher. In most cases I find them superficial, or I don’t understand them. Like my experience with many TV shows too.
One of my recent library checkouts was for a soundtrack from a movie called “The Hot Spot”. I wish I could recall how I uncovered this reference, but I can’t. Long story short. I found the sound track FANTASTIC. A mix of Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, and others. Jazz and blues. Fast and slow. Sultry and energetic. A mix of sounds and emotions.
I then had to root out the movie. It’s from 1990. No, I don’t have Netflix. So I’m left to other ways of watching. I found that Tubi has it available for a few more days. Tried watching it 3 times and each time after one or more segments (the segments are interrupted by commercials that you can’t escape–that’s why the service is “free”–someone has to pay the bills) and each time it would recycle back to the beginning.
Dropped that method like a bad habit.
I then found that one of the libraries had it available through Kanopy–another streaming service. I couldn’t get this to sync up to the Roku on my TV.
Now I’m getting frustrated.
I then discovered another “free” streaming service called Pluto that had the movie. I could stream this to my TV. Success! It’s as long movie–2 hr 10 min. Along with the multitude of commercials they showed, it was about a 3 hour experience. The Olive Garden commercial repeated pretty often. That does NOT make me want to go to Olive Garden.
Here’s my short review of the movie. I feel like I’ve seen this story before. Love triangle. The protagonist is a down on his luck guy that makes some bad decisions.
Double crossing. Conspiracy. Boy meets girl.
I didn’t mind watching it, but I doubt that I’ll watch it again. In fact, there are very few movies that I’ve ever seen more than once.
I don’t want to give the plot away, but here’s my two favorite parts of the movie.
First Favorite Part
Frank Sutton: So you’re a tough guy, huh?
Harry Madox: No, you’re the tough guy. I’m worse.
Second Favorite Part
The book is based on a novel, called “Hell Hath No Fury”
The soundtrack is awesome. Check it out. You might like the movie. Check that out too.
